Hokutolite is a variety of the mineral baryte. For information about baryte please click the article tab at the top of the page, or click -here-.

A plumboan variety of baryte deposited by very acidic hot springs. Generally also contains minor strontium and minute traces or radium, making recently deposited hokutolite mildly radioactive although this radioactivity disappears a few decades and is no longer detectable in specimens in old collections.
